Modern AFROBEAT is the millennium sound of World Dance Music. It is where Jon BlacDj currently sets his focus as this exciting genre crosses over into the mainstream.
Much have happened since FelaKuti first coined the phrase “Afrobeat” to describe his unique Afro, Jazz, Funk fusion music back in late 1970’s.
Looking back from the 1950’s…Radio delivered to Jamaica original R&B from the Southern States of America. This became Ska Music in Jamaica during the 1960’s. Rock Steady soon after changed the tempo and delivered a message through Roots Rock Reggae in 70’s and 80’s. The voice of Reggae became the mantra in Rap music of the 90’s
Hints of Dancehall, Hip Hop, Euro beats and their cultures all landed back onto African soil at the turn of the 2000 decade. Today now carefully blended and crafted with original African folk melodies, rhythms and dance a new sound of Africa has evolved.
It is called AFROBEAT. The heartbeat of the Millennium.
